Practical Steps that Lead to MLM Success
January 4th, 2009 | by Terry | asked:
If you’re considering joining the multi-level marketing industry or MLM, chances are, you already have an idea of what makes a successful endeavor. After all, MLM is an old industry. That’s right ? it’s nothing new. It’s been around for decades and as such, its business model is well-known and understood. However, with its recent resurgence, MLM has become a highly active industry, working both offline and online. With this much competition and ? let’s face it ? all those horror stories you’ve heard, how can you possibly survive? Learn these steps to ensure your MLM success:
Make the right choice from the start.
Much of the success that may be attributed to MLM business owners is due to the fact that they chose their MLM business wisely. Not every MLM opportunity is the perfect choice for everyone. There are just some products and services that some people excel in selling and distributing which others can’t handle.
When choosing an MLM business, consider the following:
- Is the company stable?
- Are the company and its management experienced?
- Are there bad reports or reviews about the company?
- Are there real products or services?
- Are these products saleable? Is there a market for them?
- Can these products or services truly compete with others in the market? What is their unique selling point?
- Can this market be sustained and expanded?
- Is there an effective business system in place?
- Is the payment or commission scheme well-designed, fair and advantageous to you?
- Can you expect training and support?
- Is the company growing?
Make sure you understand the business.
There is nothing worse than a multi-level marketer who knows little about the business. Do you understand the structure, where you’re at and how this business can be expanded? Remember that you will be selling this business to others. In fact, that’s where the ‘multi-level’ part of the business is taken from. If you have no real understanding of the business, it will be extremely difficult for you to recruit new members and expand.
Seek help.
Always seek the help of your higher-ups or your ‘uplines’. If you chose your MLM business well, these people should be supportive and offer their guidance. In fact, once you join, there should be a good, working plan that you can use. These uplines should also be available in case you have any concerns.
Learn to build a team.
Only recruit those who are willing and able to work in your team. Stay away from individuals who show absolutely no interest in your business and watch out for non-performers. Learn to target people who want the business and are willing to participate in it. Remember that you will only be as good as your team and that your MLM success depends on how well you can work together.
Take care of your team.
Don’t make your new recruits feel like orphans ? the industry term used to refer to new members who cannot enjoy support and guidance from their uplines because their higher-ups are too busy doing something else. Make sure you can handle the number of recruits you have.
If you recruit more than you can handle, try to set up a system so you are more organized and can manage their concerns and issues. Ninety-five percent of multi-level marketers fail and some can blame this to their mishandling of new members. As a result, they can’t retain the people they worked so hard to persuade to join. Don’t be included in this statistic.
Be aware of effective marketing tools and know how to use them.
Chances are, your MLM company already has a set of marketing tools you can use. Reliable companies often have a system in place, so you and other members won’t have to stumble in the dark.
Learn the art of capturing leads and market to prospective clients and customers. Check which offline and online marketing tools work for your business and focus your efforts on both sales and recruitment. Avoid common mistakes by MLM businesses and for your own good, never, ever spam anyone. This could spell disaster for all your efforts.
Build your reputation.
Keep your eye out on your competition but focus on building a great business. MLM may be a different model but it is still a business you should run like any other, whether you do it part-time or full-time. Your MLM success depends on how well you can grow your business. Know all sides of it, learn its legalities and focus on providing excellent products and services above all.
